About Chris' Public Speaking
Hi, my name is Chris Benedict. Believe it or not, I got my start as public speaker in the 7th grade with my PE class. I spoke all the way through high school in the Health class, which I still do today, but I'm expanding to include everything from pre-school to college. I find that 4th grade classes and above are more receptive. The reason I like pre-school is because the kids respond to play more than anything else. I can demonstrate by turning the event into a fun game where they are allowed to touch the chair and realize it is nothing to be afraid of. I even take them for a ride and let them control the chair with my guidance.
In other groups, after I speak, some of them always come up and tell me how much I've changed their perception of persons with disabilities. This keeps me going because there is a great need for people to open their minds and understand that we're human too. If we're given the opportunity, we can accomplish great things.
